MEL CASAS: Picturing the Sexual Revolution, 1967-1970

Casas chronicles various aspects of the Sexual Revolution, which he believes was deeply influenced by the cinema. In Humanscape 36 (1967), a giant image of an ear with earrings serves as the screen image and model for the female figures in the foreground. The fragments of signs that appear in some of these theater interiors evolve into subtitles, as in Humanscape 50 (1968), one of Casas’ Pop masterpieces.
